The Green Bay Packers are uncertain about Jordan Love’s status as their future quarterback. Love still has one more year on his contract, but the team is hoping to determine sooner rather than later if he is the right choice. Initially, Love showed promise with seven touchdowns and just one interception in his first three games. However, the team’s performance has declined, losing four consecutive games while Love has thrown four touchdowns and seven interceptions. Though the offense has struggled in the early parts of games, it has shown improvement in the second half.
General manager Brian Gutekunst portrayed Love’s performance as inconsistent and acknowledged that the entire offense needs to step up. Gutekunst purposely built a young roster around Love, particularly with inexperienced receivers. Currently, Love ranks last in completion rate among eligible quarterbacks, while the Packers rank poorly in total yards and passing yards per game. Both Gutekunst and head coach Matt LaFleur believe that assessing Love’s abilities is challenging due to the team’s overall poor performance.
Considering the possibility of obtaining a top-10 draft pick, the Packers could contemplate selecting another quarterback if necessary. However, Gutekunst remains hopeful about the team’s future and believes that with time and learning from their struggles, better results will be achieved.
