Tyson Fury acknowledges Francis Ngannou for their recent bout being his toughest challenge in the last ten years. Nonetheless, Fury is now gearing up to face Oleksandr Usyk for the undisputed heavyweight championship in February in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Originally planned for December, the fight had to be rescheduled after Fury encountered difficulties against Ngannou. Fury sustained cuts on his forehead and left eye, and even got knocked down in the third round. Despite this, Fury and Usyk had already signed contracts for their highly anticipated showdown before Fury’s match with Ngannou. Following his victory, Usyk stepped into the ring to confront Fury, but their fight had to be postponed. Usyk, a former undisputed cruiserweight champion and Olympic gold medalist, currently holds the WBA, WBO, and IBF titles. While Fury fought twice last year and emerged victorious in both matches via TKO, Usyk’s most recent fight took place in August. This upcoming fight will mark Fury’s second title reign, which started after his unexpected triumph over Wladimir Klitschko in 2015. Fury’s triumphant return to the ring, after battling depression and substance abuse, has firmly established him as one of boxing’s leading stars. Notably, his highly acclaimed trilogy against Deontay Wilder was deemed the 2021 ESPN Fight of the Year and KO of the Year. The agreement for the Fury-Usyk fight also includes a rematch clause, guaranteeing two consecutive bouts between the two fighters.
